Your switchboard, or sub-main switchboard, is a critical piece of infrastructure and in the event of a critical failure, can leave you stranded without power for extended periods of time. Older switchboards can also be considerably less safe than a new one, just like an old car! To mitigate this risk, you can upgrade your switchboard to modern standards. This reduces your risk of a catastrophic failure, fire, property damage and electric shock.

Here at Switchboard Solutions, our electricians specialise in replacing or updating your existing, outdated switchboard, as well as installing new ones too. We service across Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Ipswich, Moreton and Logan areas.

The whole shebang! Due to modern power demands, the overall power usage at this complex was exceeding it’s maximum power supply causing nuisance tripping. Therefore a consumer mains upgrade was in order. The switchboard was also upgraded and relocated to a suitable location to meet compliance with AS3000:2018. For the consumer mains upgrade, the driveway was cut up for the new cabling to installed. A services locator was also used to ensure no services were damaged during installation. All civil works were co-ordinated by our team, in line with our mission that we take care of it, so you don’t have to!

The customer decided it was time to upgrade, however the existing switchboard room size did not meet compliance with the Australian Standards AS3000:2018 due to insufficient clearance around the new switchboard. A new location was found, and the new switchboard was installed. The task included relocating over 200 cables to the new switchboard location. Power was only turned off to the complex between 8am and 3pm over 2 days, minimizing power disruption to the unit occupiers.

A new tenant required a large power increase to the tenancy they were occupying, however the main switchboard was non-compliant to allow for the power increase. The switchboard was upgraded to meet all the required regulations and the power was connected to the tenancy. Two large generators were hired for the changeover to power three fridge/freezers for the duration of the changeover so that another tenant did not lose all their food stock. This job was completed on a Monday night to minimize power disruption to the retail tenants.

01 Initial Consultation

The first step in the process of a power capacity upgrade involves a site visit, a discussion of the client's objectives, and the presentation of potential solutions.

02 Quotation

After the initial consultation, we will provide a detailed quotation with options if needed. This will help the client understand the costs involved in the project and make informed decisions.

03 Approval

Once the client has reviewed the quotation and any questions have been answered, approval to proceed with the project will be sought. A 50% deposit must be paid prior to the job starting.

04 Plan

The next step is to plan the project. This involves creating a timeline, managing external contractors, and communicating with residents or tenants regarding power outage times and access requirements.

05 Job Execution

The installation of the power and/or switchboard is carried out during this stage, along with mandatory testing in accordance with AS3000:2018. The re-energization of power completes the job execution stage.

06 Post Job Tasks

The final tasks will include an independent audit of the works, the creation of a final invoice, issuing of compliance certificate and a handover with the client.

Excellent workmanship, provided efficient and effective service and communicated with us exceptionally well - a highly professional outfit.

The old switchboard located in a very small room was constructed in the 70s and was at the end of its life and there were concerns about its safety and potential failure. We obtained a number of quotes from contractors, but contracted with Jay due to his clear communication of the process, his competitive quote and his professionalism.

From the civil works to the manufacturing of the board, to the required activities for the day of the shutdown, all were well communicated which meant that we had minimum disruption to our residents.
